About Add Header & Footer

Add header text at the top and/or footer text at the bottom of every page in a PDF. Useful for adding titles, dates, confidentiality notices, or copyright information.

How It Works

This tool uses pdf-lib to embed the Helvetica font and draw text at the top and/or bottom margin of each page. The text is rendered directly into the PDF as vector text, ensuring sharp printing.

Step by Step

  1. 1 Upload a PDF file
  2. 2 Enter header text, footer text, or both
  3. 3 Adjust font size and margin if needed
  4. 4 Click Apply to add the text
  5. 5 Download the updated PDF

Tips

  • Leave header or footer empty to skip that position.
  • Use the footer for page numbers — combine with Add Page Numbers for automatic numbering.
  • The default margin (36pt = 0.5in) works well for most documents.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use custom fonts?
Currently only Helvetica is supported. This ensures compatibility without requiring font files.
Will the text overlap existing content?
The text is placed in the margin area. If your document has small margins, consider cropping first to create space.
